Step into a traditional textile workshop in Kyoto and discover the ancient art of Japanese weaving. Experience the traditional art of weaving gold foil, called Hikihaku. This is an old technique where gold leaf is applied to Japanese paper with lacquer. It is then cut into very fine threads to be used in weaving.
Nowadays there are various techniques used, such as coloring and patterns that are sometimes drawn on washi paper. You will weave a fabric approximately 18cm x 18cm in size, which you can then take home as a treasured souvenir.
After creating your own fabric, take a guided tour of the textile workshop where you will learn about the restored Japanese weaving machines and admire beautiful examples of Nishiki (Japanese brocade) and restored textiles on display.
Due to the limited availability of one weaving machine, we ask that participants refrain from booking in groups. Thank you for your understanding.

Please note that our teacher provides hands-on guidance as he shows how to correctly take the proper stance and hold the bow.
