How do you say Cheers in Japanese?
We say “Kanpai(乾杯)” when we start drink. We normally order draft beer first. Most people order like “Toriaezu NAMA de(とりあえず生で)”. It means “Let’s drink beer first”. Some people don’t even see a menu. Personally, I want to drink something else but this is what it is. Is there any cultural differences from your country?
What food do you order?
Most Japanese order what we call speed menu such as green soy beans, Tofu, Addicting cabbage salad etc. when you order first drinks. Then, you will check a menu and choose order while waiters bring your drinks. Most “Izakaya(居酒屋)” have an English menu. You can also ask recommendation to waiters. You can ask “Osusumeha Arimasuka?(オススメはありますか?)”.
What Drink do you order?
You can order anything you like for the second drink(you can of course choose your first drink on your own). We have wide variety. I would recommend “Japanese sake(日本酒)” or “Shochu (焼酎)” if you want to drink something local. once again in you don’t know what to order, ask “Osusumeha Arimasuka?(オススメはありますか?)”.
